DISABILITY MINISTRY

DISABILITY MINISTRY

At Crossroads, we do not refer to our special needs community as disabled. Here at Crossroads, we advocate for people of all abilities to be able to connect in our community. We want our services, ministries and offerings to be a place where all of God’s children can come together and thrive spiritually.

Folks engaged in disability ministry at Crossroads use the word THRIVE to describe what happens when people of all abilities, uniquely created by God, connect and grow together. In an integrated atmosphere, all of God’s children can flourish – in services, ministries, groups, and offerings – as they encourage one another and thrive spiritually together in community.

CAPERNAUM

Capernaum is a ministry with our partner YoungLife that gives young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to experience fun and adventure, to develop fulfilling friendships and to challenge their limits while building self-esteem through club, camp and other exciting activities. Our high-energy, always-fun Club meeting is the first Tuesday of every month from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at our Westminster campus (895 Leidy Road, Westminster). Questions? Email ccylcapernaum@gmail.com.

THRIVE CAMP

An inclusive day-camp experience for elementary & middle schoolers of all abilities

At Thrive Camp, we create inclusive environments that build connections, strengthen faith and provide unexpected opportunities… for students of all abilities!

WHO:  Students entering grades 1-8 for the 2020/2021 school year
WHEN:  June 29 & 30, July 1 & 2, 2020 from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm
WHERE:  Crossroads Westminster Campus (895 Leidy Road, Westminster, MD)

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Every day, campers have opportunities to enjoy music, Bible teaching, arts & crafts and field trips adapted to each camper’s abilities. Each child will be paired up with a buddy for the week. Campers bring a lunch packed from home and are provided snacks while at camp.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Volunteers needed: We’re looking for energetic, patient and passionate crew members to share God’s love with kids of all abilities! Upper elementary and middle school students may apply as a camper in order to serve as a one-on-one buddy for another camper. High school students and older may apply for crew to serve as a one-on-one buddy, a small group leader, or in one of the various behind-the-scenes roles. Crew members must attend a mandatory training on Sunday June 28th from 1-5 pm. Click here to review crew job descriptions and expectations.

Donations appreciated: Fuel the fun! At Thrive Camp, we create inclusive environments to build faith and connections. Your gifts allow us to provide affordable experiences for all campers! We are collecting donations for crafts, snacks, and behind the scenes operations for 100 campers for one week of camp.
